Hire Kevin Roy

Time away has given me a new perspective, a greater appreciation for the power and privelege of telling other people's stories.
I'll always remember the 80-year-old grandmother in rural Kenya who held my hand while standing beside the graves of her grown children.  All five died from AIDS, leaving her to care for 20 grandchildren.
I'll never forget the overwhelming response after telling my mother's story and explaining how I became "A Son of Suicide."
For nearly my entire life, since I was in fourth grade, I've wanted to be a broadcast journalist.
My dreams came true.
I've been a Correspondent on Capitol Hill, an Anchor in Portland, Oregon and my hometown, Chicago.
But life as I've learned doesn't always go as we script it.
"When one door closes, another one opens," people tell me.
I didn't want that last door to close.  But I'm done looking back.
Do you believe in redemption and forgiveness, second chances and acts in life?
If so, open that door because I’m more than ready.  I can’t wait to get back to doing what I love most.
My reporting on mental health issues is my most important work.  I'm far from done.  We saved lives.
I’m determined to do all I can to help bring an end to the stigma against people with mental illnesses.  Consider me a servant and a warrior fighting for the cause.
Somewhere my mother is watching.
Help me make her proud.
