Dear Mr. Feder,
I'm sorry.
I'm sorry for writing about "Googling" my name. I understand your reaction.
Thank you.
Thank you for writing many good things about my work. I'll never forget your description of my "pithy writing" after the Eberts gave me their only interview before Roger made his first public appearance in years. I reported live from Champaign-Urbana, covering Ebertfest, Roger's annual film festival.
How lucky I was to spend so much time with them "Up Close and Personal." Their "Love Story" showed me what real love is all about and I learned that it keeps growing.
When I asked Roger about Chaz, he scribbled his answer in "The Notebook." Chaz read it to herself first. Then she read it out loud:
"She's my rock. I wouldn't be here today without her."
Tears started to roll down our faces, including WLS-TV Photojournalist Derrick Robinson's. My face was so covered with tears, we needed another box of Kleenex.
Thank you for what you wrote about "AIDS in Africa: The Lost Generation."
It's hard to find the right words to express my gratitude to you for your column about "A Son of Suicide."
20 years ago today, my mother, Diane Marcus Roy, completed suicide in her condominium in Sedona, Arizona on August 24, 1995. Everyone who loved her and still does misses her more than ever.
I'm proud I'm her son. She was the best mother for the first 27 years of my life. I continue to be inspired by all she taught me. We are so similar. Many people have told me that and I love it.
There is, however, one big difference. She never saw a psychiatrist.
I have by three different psychiatrists. Each one told me I am not bipolar. But if I were or I would follow doctor's orders. If were put on a mood stabilizer like lithium, I'd be sure to take every dose.
I urge you to Take the Pledge by Bring Change 2 Mind, founded by Actress Glenn Close in honor of her sister, Jessie Close, who is bipolar and her nephew, Calen Pick, who is schizophrenic. They serve as Ambassadors to Bring Change 2 Mind and remind us treatment is available and it works.
I hope you check out my blog. Today's entry is dedicated to my mother and to you.
On behalf of everyone who is still alive today because of you, Robert Feder, thank you.
Sincerely,
Kevin Roy

P.S. I left my heart, mind and soul in Chicago. I need oxygen, food, water and a job that helps people with all kinds of problems. I produce results, journalism that matters. Working as an Anchor/Reporter for WLS-TV, ABC7Chicago, for 12 years was my dream job. If you know of any jobs I'd be a good fit for, please mention me and help anyway you can. My resume, audition reels and more are on my self-designed website, www.KevinMarcusRoy.com.
Want to be my agent?
As the great John Drury told me, "It took a lot of courage to do that."
How right he was and still is.
